Северная Корея якобы запустила баллистическую ракету у своего побережья на востоке, и это первое испытание за последний месяц, подтвердили южнокорейские военные.

The UN prohibits North Korea from ballistic and nuclear weapon tests.

South Korea's military claimed to have discovered a short-range missile that was fired just an hour before 07:07 (local time) (23:00 GMT) close to Taechon, located close to 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Pyongyang. It claimed it flew around 600 kilometers in altitude at 60 kilometers.

"Our military is in a complete ready-to-go posture and is co-operating with the US as well as enhancing surveillance and vigilance," the statement reads. Statement.

Japanese coast guards confirmed the firing and warned vessels to "be cautious." Tokyo's defense minister Yasukazu Hamada claimed that the missile reached a maximum altitude of 50 km. It was sighted in the waters off the coast of North Korea's east and beyond Japan's economic zone.

"It's North Korea's method to show defiance towards the alliance with the United States," Soo Kim, an analyst at the Rand Corporation, told AFP.

On Friday, the nuclear-powered USS Ronald Reagan docked in the port city in the south of Busan to participate in joint exercises off the east coast of South Korea. These exercises are meant for the "sake of peace, stability and security within the Korean peninsula," as per officials of the South Korean navy.

Ms. Harris is scheduled to visit South Korea in the coming days during a visit to the region. The trip includes the burial of the former Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe.

Conflicts over the Korean peninsula have risen over the last year due to Pyongyang firing numerous ballistic missiles.

South Korea's President Yoon Suk-yeol, who took the helm on May 1, has announced an aggressive stance towards North Korea and indicated closer connections to the US.

This month North Korea became a nuclear-armed state, with its leader Kim Jong-un refusing to discuss talks on denuclearisation. Despite several restrictions, Pyongyang conducted six nuclear tests in 2006 between 2006 and 2017.
